Our Family Life Pastor, Mike Meyers, has some fun activity ideas and helpful prayer points for those who find themselves with unexpected time on their hands:
Gathered in our building, or scattered in our homes, we are still the church. In the weeks to come, we’ll undoubtedly have the opportunity to worship together in spirit online. We will also have opportunities to spend some focused time in prayer, along with the rest of our nation.
“If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” -2 Chronicles 7:14
As the Lord leads, consider praying for:
- the LORD to halt the advance of this virus here and around the world
- calm and hope amidst the panic that surrounds us
- recovery for those who are ill
- the salvation of many during these times
- health, energy, and wisdom for our President, and all levels of leadership working to serve us
- health, energy, and insight for medical personnel on the front lines treating the sick and developing vaccines and treatments
- our testimony as the church of Jesus Christ, following in the footsteps of 2,000 years of Christians who have loved their neighbors fearlessly in the midst of fearful circumstances
Since you may have some unexpected time to connect with one another, you might consider some of the following bonding activities with family or friends:
- Dig out those old wedding albums and videos, and take a walk down memory lane
- Catch up on your Read Scripture 2020 reading
- Cook a meal together
- Play your favorite board games
- Play a few rounds of “would you rather” (just Google some good questions)
- Video chat with someone you two haven’t seen in a while
- Think of ways you could bless your neighbors, make a list, and go for it
- There are lots of great sermons, Bible studies, and content for families and children on RightNow Media – spend time watching and discussing together
- The Meyers family personal favorite – Kitchen Dance Party for Two (or if the kids are home, include the whole family!)
- Get creative and come up with something unique
Take pictures or video of whatever you decide to do–or of your own fun activity ideas–and post to Facebook or Instagram with #rbcathome.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
